Summary The story opens in the present with Heathcliff tormented by memories of his soulmate Cathy and then flashes back to Mr Earnshaw bringing Heathcliff to Wuthering Heights as a young boy. Cathy and Heathcliff become inseparable, much to the resentment of Cathy's brother, Hindley. Years later Cathy is torn between succumbing to her love for Heathcliff or choosing a life of comfort and wealth with Edgar Linton. Cathy turns to loyal maidservant Nelly for advice when she realises that she cannot bear the thought of ever being separated from Heathcliff ...
