Summary |
October 1, 1971 was a momentous day in the history books of Australian motorsport. Young Holden driver Peter Brock claimed the first of an eventual record nine wins in the nation's most well known race at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, carving his name into the history books in the process. The 1972 Hardie-Ferodo 500 was a classic David versus Goliath battle of Brock and his fellow Holden Torana XU-1 pilots up against the powerful Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase IIIs of Allan Moffat, Fred Gibson, John Goss, Murray Carter and more. On this special compilation we have put together a selection of material from this classic race, which was the last time the Bathurst enduro was run over 500 miles prior to a change to 1000 kilometres the following year. We have black and white telecast highlights of the race as it went to air on 7 Sport nationwide on the day, and two versions of a colour documentary, one longer version and one shorter. It gives you a great account of the race, which was affected in the early part by rain that helped make it an instant classic. |
