Summary
On Christmas Eve, heavy snowfall blocks a railway line and brings a train to a halt in the countryside. An old man seizes his bag and jumps out, intending to walk to the nearby village of Hemmersby and there pick up a train on the branch line. Four passengers, both concerned for his safety and eager to resume their own journeys, leave the carriage and set out to follow him. When one falls into a ditch and faints, the group takes shelter in a deserted house, where the fire has been lit and a kettle boils - but no one is at home. Trapped together for Christmas, the passengers seek to unravel the secrets of the empty house - when a murderer strikes in their midst...
