In 1943 seventeen-year-old Ludwig is called up and ordered to the hell of the Eastern Front. Lene's and Ludwig's promise each other to believe in Ludwig's return, in a future, but within weeks Ludwig is missing in action. Lene abandons her promise, because all that matters now is surviving.
