Summary Based on Ernest Hemingway's acclaimed novel, For Whom The Bell Tolls follows idealistic American Robert Jordan (Academy Award winner Gary Cooper, High Noon) as he travels abroad to join up with the guerrilla forces and fight in the Spanish Civil War. Tasked with blowing up a bridge behind enemy lines, Jordan is distracted by partisan Mara (Academy Award winner Ingrid Bergman, Gaslight) at base camp, who catches his eye and his heart. As Jordan's love for Mara grows, he not only begins to question his assignment and his politics, but also his place in this foreign war far from home. Nominated for 9 Academy Awards, winning for support Katina Paxinou and directed by respected filmmaker Sam Wood (Kings Row, Goodbye Mr Chips), For Whom The Bell Tolls is a grand sweeping romance of epic proportions.
