Summary
The Drummond family seemed to have it all, their whisky distillery providing a very comfortable lifestyle for Murdo Drummond and his four children. Daughter Charlotte is ecstatically in love. Peter, the eldest, is preparing for the day when he will take over the reins of the business. Gregarious Andrew is already turning heads. The youngest, Nell, daydreams about a handsome highlander. Even Murdo is considering future happiness with widow Jean Ritchie. That is the idyllic scene in the summer of 1912. But, no respecter of family life, the Great War brings death, devastation, revenge, scandal and suicide to the Drummonds.
